Our mission

Hawsabah's mission is to advance knowledge through scientific research, textual interpretation, and open standardization of digital methods, including computational and artificial-intelligence methods, for representing, interpreting, and studying textual, linguistic, and cultural heritage, including phonetic, articulatory, and typographic information.

Why Hawsabah exists

Sacred and classical texts carry more than their words. The way they are written, pronounced, and transmitted is part of what is being preserved, and it is easy to lose.

Hawsabah exists to study and safeguard that fuller layer of textual heritage: the phonetic, articulatory, linguistic, and typographic detail that sits underneath the words themselves. We treat that detail as worth preserving in its own right, and we make the methods for doing so open, rigorous, and usable by anyone who needs them.

توجد حوسبة لدراسة وحماية تلك الطبقة الأعمق من التراث النصي: التفاصيل الصوتية والنطقية واللغوية والطباعية الكامنة تحت الكلمات نفسها. ونحن نعامل هذه التفاصيل على أنها جديرة بالحفظ في ذاتها، ونجعل أساليب القيام بذلك مفتوحة ودقيقة ومتاحة لكل من يحتاج إليها.

That work sits at the intersection of education and engineering: close research into how text and sound relate, joined with the digital tools (including computational and artificial-intelligence methods) that let that research scale, reach new audiences, and stay reliably reproducible. Neither half works alone. Research without engineering stays locked away; engineering without research risks misrepresenting the underlying material.

Our mark

علامتنا

The Hawsabah mark unites the Latin letter H with the Arabic letter ح (ḥāʾ), the first letter of حوسبة (Ḥawsabah), the Arabic word for computing, from which the organization takes its name. The two letterforms sit side by side as one composition rather than one standing in for a translation of the other. That mirrors how the organization treats textual heritage and computational method: two things worked on together, not one reduced to the terms of the other.

تجمع علامة حوسبة بين الحرف اللاتيني H وحرف الحاء العربي (ح)، وهو أول حرف في كلمة حوسبة، الكلمة العربية التي اشتقت منها المنظمة اسمها. يظهر الحرفان جنبًا إلى جنب في تكوين واحد، لا كأن أحدهما ترجمة للآخر. وهذا يعكس نظرة المنظمة إلى التراث النصي والمنهج الحاسوبي: أمران يُعمل عليهما معًا، لا أن يُختزل أحدهما في مصطلحات الآخر.

Both letters are cut from the same faceted, diamond geometry in deep blue, parchment cream, and white. The color and diamond shapes are meant to read as energy and value. The same cut-crystal faceting also catches light the way silicon reflects on an AI chip die, a second, quieter echo of computing sitting alongside the ح itself. The current mark is also a deliberately open structure: an earlier direction built the H from solid, boxed-in blocks (a closed "cube frame"), and this design opens that up into angular, faceted planes instead, a construction that echoes the organization's own commitment to open methods and open access.

يشترك الحرفان في الهندسة نفسها ذات الأوجه الماسية، بالأزرق الداكن وبلون الرَّق الكريمي والأبيض. يُقصد من الألوان والأشكال الماسية أن تُقرأ كطاقة وقيمة. وتعكس هذه الأوجه المصقولة الضوء أيضًا بالطريقة نفسها التي تعكس بها رقاقة السيليكون الضوء في شريحة ذكاء اصطناعي، وهو صدى هادئ آخر للحوسبة يرافق حرف الحاء نفسه. كما أن العلامة الحالية بنية مفتوحة عن قصد: فقد بُني حرف الـH في اتجاه سابق من كتل صلبة مغلقة (إطار مكعب مغلق)، بينما يفتح هذا التصميم تلك الكتل إلى مستويات زاويّة متعددة الأوجه، في بنية تعكس التزام المنظمة نفسه بالمنهجيات المفتوحة والوصول المفتوح.
